ANTIQUE WOODEN LACE BOBBIN BOUND WITH WIRE WITH SPANGLE 19th century, gorgeous wooden bobbin bound with brass wire. The spangle has 7 glass beads: 2 amber, 2 clear glass, 2 purple and1 round blue with white spots. Amber beads are rare as they were not commonly used. Spangle attached by a 'shackle'. This was a popular method used in the Sth. Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire areas of the lace-making district. The spangle is a separate piece and is attached to the bobbin by a small shackle (loop of wire) which passes through the hole in the bobbin. This is just one of a collection of bobbins I am selling on behalf of my sister. Others are already listed and there are more to follow. I might then get around to listing my own collection eventually! I have been gleaning what information I can about the bobbins from reference books, but it's been a struggle, particularly with identifying what type of wood they are! As I have zoomed in with the scanner in order to catch more of the detail, the bobbins appear as if the wood may be 'dry'. However this is not the case - in my opinion!
