This basket is handcrafted out of one piece of wood. The inside of the bowl of this wooden basket is finished in a high gloss polyurethane varnish (plastic) applied in four heavy layers. This adds illumination to the interior of this wooden basket and highlights the beautiful grain of the wood and its natural birdeyes, burls, and knots. This heavy duty polyurethane coating also protects the wood from stains from fruit, vegetables, or anything else you would want to put into this large basket. This basket holds six 2 1/2" diameter apples and two bananas within the bowl of this wooden basket. The bottom of this handcrafted natural wooden basket is also protected with four layers of polyurethane varnish (plastic) to prevent it from absorbing water, tea, or coffee that could stain and blemish the natural beauty of this wonderful wooden basket. This basket is handcrafted out of one piece of wood and the exterior side walls have been left natural emphasizing the beauty of mother nature. Nothing has been applied to the outside walls of the bowl of this basket. The outside has it own matte natural colors, irregularities and graining. Note the natural variations in the surface of this wood that mother nature has made.Dimensions: at the top rim of this basket it measures 9" wide from on side of the handle to the other side of the handle, and from the opposite sides at the rim it measures 11" wide from side to side. Basically this basket is an irregular oval. The rim flows and curves in and out and up and down in the natural way of the wood it is made out of. The top of the handle measures 9 1/2" off the top of the surface this wooden basket is setting on.This is a one of a kind handcrafted wooden basket which would add to the decor of many homes including mine.
