SquareTrade © AP6.0 Silk Ribbon Embroidery Lille Le Vine On the frontispiece of this full color 32-page softbound book, world famous Hawaiian designer and author Lilla Le Vine writes: "The colors of nature, flowers, the sea and the sunrise over the Pacific -- these are some of my favorite sources of inspiration. In my art I like to combine my love of Victoriana, antiques, romance and nostalgia. "Growing up in a remote part of New Zealand I developed some of the skills and adaptability that I use today. I learned to 'make do' and use what was available on our sheep ranch. Raw materials were all about -- wool fleece, trees and gorgeous flowers to inspire or yield natural dyes. Many long winter evenings were spent sitting by the wood fire and doing 'hard work.' From my mother and her mother I learned all sorts of embroidery at a young age, and from my father I learned crochet and toymaking. Some of my earliest memories involve sewing clothes for my dolls and embroidering lacey corners on handkerchiefs for presents for my grandmothers. Visiting the latter was so special. My Nannas both had houses filled with doilies and lace, silverware and sepia photographs, a feast for my imagination. . . . "Today I live in lovely Hawaii, where I am close to my New Zealand roots and my Texas roots at the same time. I'm currently President Elect of Hawaii Fiber Arts Guild and teach here as well as show in craft fairs and galleries. I work as a nurse part time and enjoy swimming, beach-combing, or sometimes hiking the beautiful mountain trails."
