Of the many different Psittacidae (true parrots) genera, six are classified as macaws: Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. Previously, the members of the genus Primolius were placed in Propyrrhura, but the former is correct as per ICZN rules[1]. Macaws are native to Mexico, Central America, South America (Peru), and formerly the Caribbean. Most species are associated with forest, especially rainforest, but others prefer woodland or savanna-like habitats.Iquitos, on the banks of the headwaters of the Amazon River, is the most important city in the Peruvian Amazon jungle. It is advisable to spend some days in one of the different lodges, built in the style of the area, that are found on the banks of tributaries in the jungle. There you may visit indigenous tribes, take walks in the jungle and appreciate the varied flora and fauna.
