CAROL DUPREE DESIGN FOR QUAIL RUN - PRAIRIE HOUSE SMALL CHRISTMAS STOCKING HANDPAINTED NEEDLEPOINT CANVAS - 18CT THIS IS A DARLING CANVAS FEATURING A COLONIAL COUNTRY HOUSE WITH A CHRISTMAS WREATH ON THE FRONT DOOR, AND A RED RIBBON AT THE CUFF OF THE SOCK, COMPLETE WITH HOLLY LEAVES AND BERRIES. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT DESIGN TO WORK IN SOME SIMPLE STITCHES, OR BASKETWEAVE, PERHAPS TRYING A FANCY OPEN-WORK STITCH FOR THE BACKGROUND OF THE STOCKING. I HAD THOUGHT FRENCH KNOTS OR BEADS FOR THE RED HOLLY BERRIES. I HAVE THREE OF THESE STOCKING IN TOTAL: PRAIRIE HOUSE, PRAIRIE BABY BEAR AND PRAIRIE BOY. THEY WOULD BE GREAT WORKED AS A SET. Tell them about the crazy lady selling off a huge collection of needlepoint canvasses and books in a plethora of individual eBay auctions. This crazy collector of needlepoint could almost open a store, there are so many canvasses being offered up for sale!!!! Strange as it may seem all of these canvasses and books belong to just one individual, self admitted needle-arts -aholic. Truth be told I think just maybe there is some level of shop-aholic going on here… UPDATE: I NO LONGER THINK, NOW I KNOW J Let’s see where did it all start… I have to put the blame squarely on myself, though maybe I can blame my mom who taught me to love all the forms of needle arts, both knitting and needlepoint. I have many wonderful items that my mom stitched for me, and now that she has been in heaven for just over two years, I am particularly glad she passed along the love of creating something in needlework. Plus I have some cool pillows she made for meJ!!! When I was a teenager I made a needlepoint choker from a kit I bought through SEVENTEEN magazine – I was way cool, if I do say so myself. It seems my needlepoint talents went on hold for many years, until I was bit by the bug when I first lived in Birmingham, MI. Those of you from Oakland and Wayne County know what fabulous choices for stitching we had (and you still have). Jacobsons’, Needlepoint for You, Sally Rodin, Shay Pendray, what a great selection of canvasses and stitching talents!!!! I would buy countless canvasses, worried that I wouldn’t be able to get them again…. (Sound familiar??) Whenever I would visit other cities, I just had to look up other needlepoint shops; in fact the summer of 2006 I visited Julie Mar in Asheville, NC. OK, so why part with all these wonderful canvasses and books? Well, I used to own a great townhouse with a finished basement complete with a great crafting area, (mostly just loads of storage bins filled with canvasses, yarn and lots of bookshelves filled with books). I have moved back to Chicago and have zero storage space. I am now forced to part with lots of my stuff, including these canvasses. Don’t worry, as I am keeping lots of my collection, all my Petei Santa’s, my DEDE Santa’s, and lots of my Melissa Shirley canvasses. In fact, I am nearly ready to ship two Petei Santas to the finisher!!! All of the canvasses have been stored in a smoke-free, dry home, so everything is all in great shape.
