I started painting ceramics using glazes that must be fired, but soon found another method that works great and gives wonderful results – even for the beginner! I have found that painting ceramic bisque using acrylic paints is a great way to create unique pieces without the hassle of multiple coats and kiln firing. I have been doing this for a few years and the main thing you need to keep in mind - it takes time and practice to create items that look great! I am not the ultimate expert but wanted to pass along some of the techniques I have developed throughout the years. If you don’t have a kiln, firing pieces can get very expensive as ceramic shops charge by the inch to fire the pieces. There are some pieces such as dishes, vases etc, that must be glazed and fired if they are to be used in your home for the purpose intended Some of the information inclued: Fun basics on how the ceramic bisque pieces are made How does it get to be ceramic bisque? Dry Brush techniques Dry brushing refers to (as the name indicates) putting paint on a brush and zigzag the brush on a paper plate, towel, or bag,  removing most of the paint from the brush so it is relatively dry before applying to the piece. This produces a “scratchy” effect. Dry brush technique, most of the liquid is taken out of the brush to produce a soft feathery kind of effect to produce a variety of surfaces such as foliage, bark, fir, stone etc. Special bronzing technique Make your pieces look like bronze texture - its a sure fire winner Supplies needed Everything you'll need to get started! They are then cleaned and fires to cone 04 (kiln temperature).
