Box Full of Rocky Mountain Pinecones body { background-color: aqua } The cones sizes vary from 1 1/4" to 4 1/2" Priority mail "shoe box", 14 1/2 " x 7 1/2" x 6"Approximately 200 cones.The box is packed as full as possible to prevent shifting. Varieties include Lodgepole Pine, Poderosa Pine, Limber Pine, Engleman Spruce, Blue Spruce, and Douglas-fir.I gather these cones off the ground on my property at an altitude of 9000 feet. The trees on my piece of mountainside forest are tall and straight with the cones growing on the top third, way out of my reach. They fall to the ground due to the weather, or the squirrels who seem to enjoy dropping many cones to the ground while searching for the perfect one.Cones from the pine trees are woody and hard, while the fir and spruce cones tend to be more papery but very stiff. There are prickles on Lodgepole and Ponderosa cones. Limber Pines only grow in the Rockies at high altitudes, and have bits of dried pitch on the tips. I try to send a good assortment of only clean (no dirt), whole cones. There will be some pitch, a few needles, and occasionally a small piece of branch attached.Answers to questions I get asked: Yes there are seeds in my cones. I don't know how to grow pine trees, they sprout like weeds on my property. I don't have time to sort and measure cones, but I may be able to send you only one species if you wish. There are no poisonous spiders at this altitude. If you have any questions, please contact me before you start bidding, if possible.
