Homegrown by a purebred Romney ewe named Dreads and Romney lambs The wool was sheared, washed, carded and spun by hand here on the farm. Romney wool is soft and lustrous and has good strength for durability. These skeins are suitable for next to the skin, but are durable enough for outerwear. I have been breeding and crossbreeding sheep for more than 25 years with an emphasis on wool quality for my own use. I only spin the best! It is a single ply, 100% wool excellent for knitting and felting. As it is handspun, there is some variation in texture and thickness. It is a very soft yarn with a smooth silky handle. I used scarlet, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. All very bright vibrant colours. Six different coloured stripes for a total of 47 yards. Each colour is about 6 yards with a blending in transition to the new colour. You are bidding on one (1) skein of single ply 100% wool, approximately 50 grams, 47 yards. This is one rainbow only, no repeats! I would class it as a knitting worsted weight. Keep an eye on my store and new listings if you like this yarn! Each handspun skein of yarn is a work of fibre art, therefore you will only find a few skeins, sometimes only one, that are listed at the same time. When they are gone, I will never be able to exactly duplicate it. I may try again with the same combinations but the lot will be different and probably not compatible with previous listings. I use the sheep’s name to identify the lot number. I usually dye one fleece several different colours and combine them in different ways to create more designs within one colourway. I get all my ideas from my surroundings and favourite fabrics. I rarely handpaint and choose to do my mixing on the carder so it is very difficult, if not impossible to duplicate, making my yarns unique to only one or two purchasers. I only use professional acid dyes that will stay true during washing or felting. Dyes are light and wash fast in warm water to last a lifetime. I do my best to accurately represent colours but due to the limitations of technology, (and my picture taking ability) the colours may not always be exact, particularly with multicoloured items. Please check with me if you are looking for something compatible from a previous listing or email me with any questions. I love to talk about wool, spinning, my sheep and knitting and I welcome any comments on my yarns. Do you have a favourite colour combination? I am happy to try new ideas and colour combinations and to consider personal requests. I'd be happy to try something new for you.
